The Epsilon Pi Chapter of the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health at Michigan State University is pleased to announce the College of Human Medicine’s inaugural spring 2024 inductees. Each year, Delta Omega elects new students, faculty, alumni, and honorary members based on high academic standards and outstanding performance in scholarship, teaching, research, and community service. Election of membership in Delta Omega is intended to recognize merit and encourage further excellence in and devotion to public health work.
In a city like Flint, which has experienced public health crises that have eroded trust, public health efforts must give residents a seat at the table — and a voice. That’s what an expanded partnership between Michigan State University and the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation sets out to do: involve residents at every step of creating solutions for a healthier future and a platform to impact change in areas they identify as a priority.
Air Quality Awareness Week
ExpiredDuring Air Quality Awareness Week, the MPH Student Advisory Board will provide free events for members of the Flint community, who have been impacted greatly by inequitable environmental events. Planned activities on September 18th - 22nd include a webinar panel of experts and a day of service at the Flint Farmer’s Market.
On the way to the first day of her summer internship, Maya Wolock listened to Hillary Clinton interview Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha on a podcast. She couldn’t believe she was listening to her direct supervisor speak on a high-profile platform. “I gave myself a case of the first-day jitters,” Wolock said. Her nerves quickly turned to excitement after meeting her fellow interns and the faculty and staff of Michigan State University and Hurley Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Public Health Initiative (PPHI) in Flint.

For years, MSU College of Human Medicine researchers in the Division of Public Health have been working with Flint community partners to improve the health of the community, improve access to health care, reduce health disparities and advance policies and interventions that eliminate structural racism in health care.
Research to Reduce Disparities in Disease Program (R2D2) is seeking first-year College of Human Medicine student scholars. Opportunity to earn $10,000 and satisfy the College of Human Medicine’s 3rd-year research requirement. Scholars will create a strong transdisciplinary bridge between medicine and public health while investigating the role of race, ethnicity, gender, and implicit/explicit bias in medicine.
The Michigan State University online Master of Public Health degree program (MPH) earns accreditation by signifying the highest standards of achievement and a commitment to quality education. The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) review team, composed of elected deans and directors, approved MSU’s accreditation at the CEPH Board of Councilors meeting on June 1 – 3, 2022. Accreditation begins from June 15, 2019, through July 1, 2027.
MSU Division of Public Health is proud to announce Linda Cornish as one of the recipients of the 2022 Jack Breslin Distinguished Staff Award. “I could not think of a more dedicated staff member deserving of this very important Jack Breslin award,” said Wayne McCullough, PhD, interim director of the College of Human Medicine Division of Public Health and director of the Master of Public Health Program.
